This is probably my favorite bug! The first time i found one it scared the shit out of me, it ran towards me very quickly and I had no clue what it was. It took me months to actually find out what it was. Someone on Inatrualist identified the photo I took of it. This species was first found in 2003 in a soggy flowerbed at a returaunt.Not much is known about these bugs unfortionatly, most likely due to lack of speciemens and importance. I find these bugs quite often though and I love theses guys!
This is my favorite lizard! These lizards look so weird. I like monitors a lot (especially Black Water Monitors.) I like how lanky these lizards look and how smart they are. I went to repticon hoping to see one of these but there were none. Considerng how bad reproduction can be in captivity, I am not surpried. Actually its probably for the best.
I saw some at the aquarium recently and they are so fucking cute.I love them sm. if their habitats werent ashard to recreate I would want them as a pet. They look like a childs drawing of a sea monster. They dont look like they shouldnt exist. They are so intersting from a physical and social standpoint.
They are very cute and the way they hop around is funny. They are commonly mistaken for minks. Stoats generally have a white-ish underbelly and black tipped tail while minks have a uniform brown coat with a small wite spot on their chin. Apparently in an attempt to confuse prey, they will hop around and basically imitate a seizure before attacking (1st picture.) It works.
The one in the first picture looks like a middle aged man. These animals make terrible pets. They are unfortionaly a somewhat common pet in Japan. They chew on everything, need a lot of social interaction, the males can become very aggresive, and are predisposed to medical issues (they have narrow nostrils and hay or bedding dust can clog their airways.)
I found a decapated one of these once. I took its elytra and idk what to do with it now but its very pretty! ive never actually seen an alive one but to my surprise there are some in my area! I think these bugs just look very interesting and they are dung beetles! Dung beetles are cool! They dig tunnels and drag poop underground for their babies to eat. They are considered fairly bulky in comparison to other dung beetles, which can very from the size of a grain of rice to a bit bigger than a ping pong ball. There was also a study done on dung bettles to determine if they laid ontop of their poop balls to cool off, and they made shoes for them! There is a correlation!
Roaches are so overhated (infestations are gross but roaches are important). Roaches are a very diverse type of bug and without them Earth would be disgusting (to humans.) There are many interesting types of roaches (Marti Gras Roach, Surinam Roach, Death Head Cockroach) but this is my favorite type of roach due to its interesing body segments and recognizable name. They look kinda like a isopod if it was trying to look like a rock. They are very cute though and Id love to see one in person some day!
I looked at one picture of a praying mantis on pinterest and now half of my feed is just these mfs. Iv'e never actually found or seen a praying mantis irl, but I do really want to see one! They look like if a stickbug and leafbug had an evil baby. I think they are very cute and a little creepy looking. Due to their compound eyes it looks like it has a pupil (this is fairly common among insects,) but its more of an illusion. They are very noticale on European Mantisis though. Mantids also have 1 ear on the bottom of their midsection which helps them hear ultrasonic chirps from bats!
Penguins were my favorite animal when I was a kid. I had a stuffed animal of a peguin when I was a kid named Walter. Im pretty sure my dad hid it from me tho. A penguins egg can very quickly freeze so parent penguins have to constantly sit (They dont exactly sit ontop of the eggs but im not sure how else to word it. They balance the egg ontop of their feet) on them or elese the embryo will die in just minutes. When a penguins chick dies often time the parents will show actions of greif like wailing and mourning the death, some will even attempt to kidnap another penguins chick. Sometimes same sex penguin couples will adopt a chick together! Homosexuality is fairly common in penguins!
I love seeing groups of these guys. The lack of septum on them is very cool looking and reminds me of a stretched septum. In the wild they typically only live 15-20 years, but some in captivity have lived up to ~50 years. They dont make many vocalizations due to a lack of syrinx, but they can make hisses and grunts. Black vultures, king vultures, and condors, which lack the ability to smell carcasses at long distances, follow turkey vultures to carcasses. Turkey vultures have a loose social heirarchy, but when mixed wwith black vultures they are typically subordinate due to their more aggressive nature.
Out of every bird this one makes my favorite calls. I also find them the least creepy owl. I mostly like them for their distinctive call, but i also find them very cute. They are also primarily make calls during the day. They are also fairly diurnal when they are raising their young. About %16 of their diet is arthropods, and a large majority of that typically is of ground-based beetles.
I dont know much about these birds but their colorartion is beautiful and their mimicry is creepy. Ive never gone to Australia, therefore I've never actually seen one. They seem like an aggresive crow from what ive heard. They are smart but also very defensive. But considering the other aniamls that are in Australia, its probably not that big of a deal.
I also dont know much about these but I think they look cool. The females dont have fake dicks, thats only spotted hyenas. They are fairly small in comparison to other types of hyena. Striped hyenas tend to be fairly timid and solitary, contradicting the spotted hyena. They are also nocturnal! But they tend to make odd and loud noises at night. They sound like a sea lion kinda.
